Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a follow-up update to my previous "銀河系で一番のお尋ね者 | Galaxy's Most Wanted" activity report I posted back in February. Believe me, I know I'm taking forever <(´⌯ ̫⌯`)>
(Friends and fans have made sure to let me know lol)
To recap: As I explained in February, life and some health-related issues got in the way of me being able to write for several months (I'm doing better now.) I had also discovered a small, but insidious plothole I somehow overlooked. Which, if left unchecked, would cause major issues later on in the story. So I explained that I planned to pause progress on Episode 20, go back, and make the necessary alterations before continuing onwards. When I said that these alterations are going to feel very minor to most readers - I meant it. In fact, I specifically set out with the goal of making these alterations feel as unnoticeable as possible. Fortunately this process has proven to be rather seamless given most of the world-building groundwork necessary to integrate these changes had already long-since been established within the lore itself. It has just been a process of making small tweaks rather than having to re-write large sections.
So what's been the hold-up?
Well I decided to use this opportunity to improve my note-taking. Believe it or not, up until this point, GMW was written almost entirely from memory. Apart from a jumbled mess of random name ideas, I've basically been using next to no notes (No, the plothole was not caused by my lack of note-taking. That was just me not thinking on my part.) The lack of note-taking has not become a problem yet. But with how nuanced and expansive the world of GMW is, I could definitely see it causing unnecessary challenges later on. Because I've been doing everything from memory, I have needed to constantly be in the headspace for writing the series. Anytime something comes up which forces me to put writing on hold for just a little bit, it makes jumping back into it way harder than it needs to be.
So in order to prevent long delays like this in the future, I decided to make an extensive note glossary! Where I can quickly and easily look: "This character learned about that in Episode 7", or "This character has matured to this point by Episode 15", or "This is what this particular technology is, and it first appeared in Episode 2", etc.
This has... Proven more difficult than I first expected. Namely due to how the story itself is told. GMW is very much a character driven story. It's told primarily through Max's personal understanding of things, and his own analysis of the world and the people around him. Max is a fairly intelligent character. But his analyses are not always correct. Sometimes he's right on the money, sometimes he's partially correct, and sometimes he misses the mark completely. This greatly complicates how I need to notarize things. Because I need to base it off of how HE understands things - Not necessarily the reality of things. (If that makes any sense.)
My personal goal is to have all this done by the end of the month, and to have Episode 20 released sometime next month. Thanks to my new glossary system, I think this will (hopefully) be the last time this series ever gets a long delay like this. At the very least, it will significantly cut down on the time it takes to jump back into the series. So please bear with me.
Thank you to everyone who reads and follows along with the series. I know it's a small series with a niche following. But when I hear from those of you who read it, who genuinely enjoy it, are excited to see more of GMW's world, and to find out what happens next - It truly means the world to me.
GMW will return soon.
